Updates from the front: Glimpses of Feretory

The Silver Star was fast, even for an Astartes. Clad in ancient Crusade pattern armour, and wielding a powered dagger in each hand, the enemy warrior sped through the devastated Manufactorum, weaving through the ruins to avoid the incoming fire.

Arramis, of the Charnel Guard 5th Ostire, cursed as his volkite beam missed again, the stream of superheated air instead incinerating a damaged servitor that had been unfortunate enough to cross the Silver Star's path. As the opposing Space Marine surged forwards into the last ten metres that separated them, Arramis adjusted his aim and fired again.

This time the beam hit true, bathing the right side of the warrior's torso in an inferno of crimson flame. Bone white and turquoise armour blackened and bubbled, as the Silver Star staggered behind a pile of rubble. Raising the stolen volkite caliver, a prize of the Methuselan Affair, Arramis climbed over the makeshift barricades and advanced towards his fallen opponent.
Suddenly a hail of solid shot ricocheted from his void-hardened armour. A squad of the Abomination's mortal followers emerged from the gloom to his left, firing furiously with their primitive auto-rifles. Contemptuously, Arramis turned the volkite against them, relishing the screams of agony and the stench of burning flesh as their frail human bodies spontaneously combusted.

The blades that pierced his armour were lightning bolts of pain, shocking in their intensity. The Silver Star held him from behind in an iron embrace, the twin daggers expertly puncturing both of the Charnel Guard's hearts. Arramis hadn't even heard him approach. As the warrior released one of the blades, leaving it embedded in his chest, and gently took the volkite, he heard him whisper, "ʻIke au i kā mākou waiwai, ʻānela liʻiliʻi".

Wordlessly, Arramis took the only option left to him. With near lifeless fingers, he triggered the melta charges clamped to his belt, and the pair of them were engulfed in brilliant white light.

In the gloom of the Manufactorum, a new star briefly lit up the darkness.
