The later years of the War of the False Primarch would see the Inheritors greatly diminished, both in terms of numbers and character. The unrelenting brutality of conflict against fellow Space Marines had taken its toll, particularly the bitter battles with their own supposed Primogenitors, the Death Eagles.

These losses, combined with the immense collateral damage the War had inflicted upon two entire Sectors, had done much to erase the Chapter's previous optimism. Cynicism and nihilism, became increasingly poorly-hidden throughout their ranks, alongside a slowly growing realisation in some quarters that defeat was now inevitable.

Nonetheless, the Chapter's inherent nobility still shaped their actions, and they remained determined both to protect the common citizenry of the Imperium and prove their loyalty to Volnoscere at all costs. 

Torn between these two ideals, the Inheritors would find themselves stretched perilously thin, a fact that the Pentarchy would exploit during the Siege of the Myrean League – with fatal consequences to the beleaguered guardians of Hyperborea...
